Loosely based on a variety of negative shapes, the paintings shown here are selected from 2008, 2009 and 2010. Many images can be found among the patterns but most shapes I chose to use, only imply or suggest an image. The dominant shapes in each painting were developed from early drawings in my sketchbooks, ie: an ampersand, helix loops and letter forms. A narrative homage or visual parody was often found during the process of making these wood panel paintings and revealed in some titles whether historic or literary ( ie: Gorky, Barthes, Nefertiti, Ovid and others ).
